Typical mold remediation takes 1-3 days depending on the scope of the project. A lot of buyers and sellers get nervous when they hear the word mold. To do an entire wall costs ~$4,000-$5,000 total. This shouldn’t be a deal breaker if you love the house.
There are two parts to the mold remediation process:
Step one is to put up a containment tent. The walls are going to be opened and scrubbed and materials will be removed which stirs up mold particles. These particles are hazardous and make the room unsafe. Mold remediation professionals set up a containment tent so that you are safe and can go about your day while mold remediation is underway.
The second part is to treat the mold damage. Sometimes when the walls are opened more damage is discovered – the mold company may drill a few investigation holes around the area being worked on to check if there is more mold. Finding more damage will raise remediation cost.
There are a variety of methods to treat mold damage; remove damaged building materials, Scrape, sand, and wire brush affected surfaces and then apply Anti Fungal cleaner with a peroxide base, Hepa Vaccuum, Dry Ice blasting in some cases, and then finish with a microbial shield to inhibit future mold growth in remediation areas.
Remediation usually doesn’t include the cost of sealing back up the walls. This is an additional expense. The mold remediation for a wall will run $2,000-$3,000 and then sealing the wall will cost another $1,000-$2,000.
