The Century is a 42-story (481 ft) 140-unit luxury highrise condo (but I wouldn’t blame you for calling it a skyscraper) in Century City. Built-in 2010, this is one of the top five residential high-rises in Los Angles (and one of the most expensive, trading at market rates of X$/sqft).  The building was designed by New York Architect Robert AM Stern, dean at Yale School of Architecture, who chose the oval shape. Rumor has it that the Oval shape is the best shape to maximize views while enhancing livability. The Century has some truly amazing views.

The Century occupies a large 4-acre site that gives it a nice barrier on all sides from the surroundings and expansive gated estate-like grounds (except with no maintenance! And you can be glad about that since there are 150 full-grown pine trees alone!).

The Century is estate living combined with a luxury high-rise. You approach by a winding private street driveway (West Century Way), that is protected by a guard gate. The Motor Court has a water feature and white-glove valet and concierge waiting for you to drop off your car so they can whisk it away. The property has a certain glamour to me, like the Beverly Hills Waldorf Astoria.

The overall construction of the Century is up to the highest standards. Every fit and finish of the Century’s construction is no expense spared, finest quality, careful attention to detail. Related developed The Century. In true jaded Hollywood fashion, this project replaced a not very old 30-story St Regis Hotel that was built in 1984 with a younger, brighter, better looking up and comer. Related bought the property in 2005 for $123 million and demolished it forgetting about remodeling in favor or a brand-new build. One reason Related decided to do away with the old building was that the 1980’s 8-foot ceilings were too low to meet modern tastes. But the real deal-breaker was the unmovable exterior metal beams that would have limited window height and views. Neighbors didn’t protest because they thought changing from a Hotel to Residential use would bring less traffic. The building took 5 years in the planning, cost $300 million to build (including land), and took 2 years to construct. This building offers every conceivable luxury amenity to its residents. This is why some liken it to living in a 5-star hotel.

All of the floorplans in The Century are single level (except some of the penthouses) with direct elevator access and huge double front doors. There are 4 condos on each floor, numbered A, B, C, and D.

(A) floorplans are the largest at 4BR/5BA 4,660 sqft, then B floorplans at 3BR/4BA 3,440 sqft, and then C at 2BR/3BA 2,790 sqft, and D at 2BR/3BA 2,450 sqft.

The South Facing Condos A & B have a view premium and sell for 10%-15% premiums over the North Facing Condos C & D.

Prices range from 3M – 35M. On a price per square foot basis- condos sell for $1,000/sqft for lower floors to up to $2,500/sqft for the penthouses. The average $/sqft for the building is $1,500.

Most owners in The Century have hired interior architects to completely redesigned their condos so that you can’t even recognize them from the original developer finishes. How High are ceilings? With the floorplans, every condo has a powder room, and every bedroom has an ensuite bathroom. Every condo has a master with a large walk-in closet and a private master bathroom and private patio. Since the building is so tall, I think it was difficult to put in large balconies. Each condo has two balconies- one off the living room and one for the master bedroom. The balconies are small to medium size. Living Rooms are massive with a gas fireplace. Soundproofing is excellent and you can install hard surfaces anywhere.  Kitchens come with Viking Stainless Steel applainces, islands, and pantries. Off the kitchen is a separate service entrance for catering and maids to use.

Parking is Assigned parking not deeded. Some original owners negotiated Reserved parking spots with the developer which basically makes them deeded, so check with the property manager. Owners with reserved spots or handicap placards can park themselves.  50 max key cards $200 monthly fee? $28 fee for 1 day, 

Laundry is inside each condo. Stacked Washer and Dryers are located inside a laundry room with cabinet space, countertop, and a sink.
