Canadian pop star – and husband to model Hailey Baldwin – is officially a resident of Beverly Hills! His gorgeous new home at 1710 Tropical Ave closed on March 11 2019 for a cool $8.5 million.
The 6,130 square-foot Monterey Colonial-style home, colloquially known in the neighborhood as “The Tropics,” boasts five bedrooms and seven bathrooms on an 8,500 square-foot lot. Originally built in 1932 and recently renovated by Hollywood production designer Charles Infante, the house exudes Old Hollywood glamour in a thoroughly California Monterey style.
Beautiful gates give way to a formal entry. Inside, the renovation lends modern touches like Steelcase windows, white oak floors, and rift white oak cabinets to Old Hollywood classic accents like marble bathrooms and wood paneling.
An oversize sun-filled living room opens into a kitchen with a separate breakfast room and a large formal dining room perfect for entertaining. A wood-paneled library with recessed built-in bookcases and its own wet bar can also be used as an office. Slim wood-trimmed French doors lead to the backyard, ensuring one does not work too hard with no play.
Downstairs, an Art Deco bar room opens into a large screening room with banana leaf print wallpaper and a neon sign reading “The Tropics,” inspired by the decor of the famed nearby Beverly Hills Hotel. The bar itself is Old-Hollywood drama, featuring strips of the bronze mirror and a back-lit temperature-controlled wine cellar.
The master suite is nearly a house unto itself. In addition to the bedroom area, the master suite includes a fireplace, large walk-in closet, lavish spa bathroom with marble and double vanity, rift oak beamed ceilings and even a separate sitting area that can be used as a nursery, den or a second closet. A private terrace gives access to a view of the grounds.
The home features four additional bedrooms, each with their own en-suite bathrooms.
A sunken family room, which used to be a sun porch, leads directly to the landscaped backyard via steel-framed floor-to-ceiling glass doors.
Outside, a private courtyard boasts a zero-edge swimming pool with cabana, BBQ, fire pit and seating area ideal for entertaining. The grounds are landscaped with lush mature olive trees and greenery.
Bieber certainly chose a beautiful neighborhood for his first Beverly Hills home. Located north of Sunset off Benedict Canyon Drive, Tropical Avenue hosts only four other homes in a quiet, secluded area of the city. However, luxurious Beverly Hills shopping, dining, and, of course, the Beverly Hills Hotel are located just a short walk away.
Many are surprised at Bieber’s location choice, as he holds quite a reputation for being a rambunctious neighbor. In years past, homeowners in the famed 90210 zip code have tried to ban Bieber from renting or buying in the area after numerous allegations of mansion-trashing, loud parties, and vandalism (throwing eggs). However, the elegant house in a quiet neighborhood indicates that Bieber has matured and is looking for more private home life.
The seller was Greg Hebner, managing director of Arixa Capital, who purchased the property in March 2017 for $4.5 million and then hired Infante to remodel it. David Kramer and Drew Fenton of Hilton & Hyland held the listing.
